PHD RESEARCH POSITION FOR THE SUSTAINABLE USE OF TEXTILES
The Department of Technology Management and Economics at the Chalmers University of Technology, in Gothenburg, Sweden
Application submission closed: 28.01.2018
Position available: Full-time temporary employment limited to a maximum of five years
The holder of this position will engage in environmental systems analysis and behavioural research in the HSB Living Lab, a unique research arena located at the Chalmers University Campus in Gothenburg, Sweden, in which research is done in collaboration between academia, industry and local government. A key area of the lab is the Electrolux Laundry Studio, in which all energy and water flows are monitored. Laundries are important for the environment on account of the water, electric power and detergent they consume, the wastewater they generate and the damage they do to clothing.
The researcher will in the Living Lab collect data by observations of behaviours and attitude measurements using surveys, interviews and experimental methods. The researcher will contribute to knowledge regarding the actual behavioural patterns of laundry users, compare the reported with actual habits, and attempt to influence them by various cues and nudging approaches. The researcher will monitor resource and pollution flows and use this information construct a comprehensive assessment of garment life cycles (LCA) under various behavioural scenarios.
